Homeopathic Medicine Onosmodium

Onosmodium virginianum or False Gromwell is a medicinal plant found in eastern North America. In Homeopathy, a remedy known as Onosmodium, prepared from this plant is available. For preparing the medicine, whole, fresh plant is macerated in alcohol.

Onosmodium is primarily given to women who are confused, indecisive, physically and mentally tired, and suffer from weak memory. It is stated to be good in the treatment of sexual weakness of men and women. Onosmodium is good remedy for headache and tired eyes. It is useful when while doing fine eye-work, the head hurts instead of the eyes.

About the plant

Onosmodium virginianum which is also called as Virginia false-gromwell is an herbaceous, perennial member of the borage family (Boraginaceae) distributed along Atlantic seaboard from Massachusetts to Florida and west along the Gulf Coast to western Louisiana. Plant’s habitats include dry, calcareous woodland areas.

Onosmodim virginianum is an herbaceous, perennial, erect, hairy plant 30-60 cm in height. The plant’s oblong to elliptic leaves, 4-6 cm in length by 1 to 2 centimetres in width, with three to five prominent veins. The plant’s tubular yellow flowers. Onosmodium virginianum blooms in June and July. The fruits are smooth are dull-white in color. Three of species (O. decipiens, O. molle and O. virginianum) occur in the eastern United States.

Symptoms for Onosmodium Remedy

This is a remedy for migraine, in which headache is from eyestrain. It is a remedy for sexual weakness, where headache occurs as a result of sexual weakness. There is great want of power of concentration and co–ordination. Patient is so weak that he acts as if born tired. Patient in general is very weak, with loss of memory. Nose feels dry. He is very confused. Patient has a special craving for ice water and cold drinks.

1. Headache

It is important remedy for migraine. Patient has dull, heavy pain with a feeling as if head is pressing upward in the back of head. Along with headache patient has feeling of sensation as if all around is spinning around. Patient has occipito-frontal (from back to front) headache, which is worse in morning on waking. Headache, is chiefly on left sided .Pain may often be felt near ear and face.

2. Weakness of eyes

It is important remedy for weakness of eyes. Patient has blurring of vision as a result on muscle weakness. These muscles are so weak that at times it is felt by patient that muscles are paralysed. There is heaviness and dullness of eyes. Along with this there is pain in the eyeballs between orbit and the ball which extends to the left side of face.

3. Throat complaints

Many throat complaints are also covered with this remedy, where there is severe dryness of throat. At times there is discharge from nose which causes raw feeling in throat. These symptoms are worse by cold drinks.

4. Sexual weakness

It is very good remedy for sexual weakness, as there is almost loss of desire.

As it covers many of female related symptoms it can be also be used as female remedy, where there is severe pain in the uterus which is bearing down pain. Sexual desire completely destroyed. Feels as if menses would appear. There is aching in the breasts, nipples itch. Menses too early and too prolonged. Leucorrhoea is yellow, acrid and profuse. It is important remedy for mastitis where there is sore aching in breasts.

5. Back complaints

Pain is also seen in back. Patient feel tired and there is numb feeling in the legs and below the knees. There is great muscle weakness.

• Dosage: 30 potency.
• Adults and children over 6 years : Dissolve under the tongue.
• Children under 6 years : dissolve the granules in some water .
